Net zero roadmap

The Queensland Government is committed to net zero emissions by 2050.

A credible and affordable pathway will help:

  • maintain Queensland’s competitiveness
  • support access to international capital markets
  • manage emerging international trade risks
  • unlock private sector investment.

Queensland is currently at 35% below 2005 levels, having exceeded our first interim emission reduction target of 30% by 2030.

Emissions reduction plans

The Queensland Government will develop an overarching net zero roadmap that outlines the overall vision and priorities to achieve net zero by 2050.

This will also set out our adaptation priorities to ensure industries and communities are resilient. The roadmap will be released by the end of 2025.

The government will develop 6 sector emissions reduction plans to ensure all industries are engaged in realising a net zero future.

These sectors are:

  • energy
  • resources
  • agriculture and land
  • transport
  • industry
  • built environment.
