Community feedback on renewable energy

Consultation on this framework is now closed.

Communities are our partners in the growth and development of Queensland's energy sector. From 30 September 2024 to 1 February 2025, we asked for your feedback on a draft renewables regulatory framework to ensure we address current community concerns and deliver an energy system that is affordable, reliable and sustainable.

Proposed framework

The Draft Renewables Regulatory Framework (PDF, 416.4 KB) includes current and proposed initiatives in 5 key areas:

  • Enhanced environmental outcomes
  • Effective community participation
  • Easy access to information
  • Enduring landholder protections
  • Efficient industry facilitation

Read a summary of the initiatives (PDF, 1137.29 KB).

Consultation progress

The discussion paper was originally released in September 2024. An updated version with minor amendments was released in December 2024. These amendments highlight the Queensland Government’s commitment to delivering a mandatory code of conduct for renewable energy proponents, with a focus on:

  • identifying legacy community benefits
  • addressing current community concerns.

Our consultation sought feedback on proposed initiatives under the key areas and implementation.

Submissions are now being assessed and future steps will confirm the approach that will improve Queensland’s renewables regulatory framework.
