Wambo Wind Farm proposal

The Wambo Wind Farm stage 1 is a renewable energy project located near Jandowae, in the Western Downs region. Construction of the generating plant started in April 2023 and infrastructure testing is due to start in 2025. To operate the plant, the applicant must have a generation authority.

We are inviting feedback on this application to connect the generating plant to a transmission network. The connection will be via the Halys Substation and have a maximum electricity energy production capability (nameplate rating) of 252 megawatts.

Now accepting submissions

Submissions will close at 5pm on 16 December 2024. Any submissions that are submitted after this time will not be considered.

Permission requirements

Unless the infrastructure is to be located wholly on land the applicants own or lease, the operator must apply to Queensland Treasury and be granted a generation authority under 179 of the Electricity Act 1994.

We must then seek feedback on the application from the public, including people who might be affected by or interested in the project.

Once feedback and other relevant matters have been considered, we will decide whether to issue a generation authority to the applicant to proceed with the proposed electricity generation activity.

Have your say

We are seeking feedback from the public about the application to assess:

  • the suitability of
    • the applicants to hold a generation authority
    • the owners (also the applicants) to be the owners
  • other matters to be considered under section 180 of the Act.

Read the information paper to learn more about the application.
