What is Queensland's renewable energy progress?
As at the end of June 2024, over 70 large-scale renewable energy projects were helping to power Queensland.
These range from solar farms, wind farms, hydro and bioenergy located across the state, supported by grid-scale batteries and pumped hydro energy storage, with more under construction.
We are on track to reach our renewable energy targets:
- 50% by 2030
- 70% by 2032
- 80% by 2035.
Progress is being driven by the Queensland Energy and Jobs Plan:
- Our renewable energy supply in the 12 months to June 2024 reached 27%.
- We have opened new interim transmission and training centres in Townsville and Gladstone and have announced a $150 million Job Security Guarantee to support affected energy workers.
We also committed $26 billion in the 2024–25 Queensland Budget to support the plan, including:
- $16.5 billion towards new and existing renewable and energy storage projects
- $8.5 billion to build the SuperGrid, including Copperstring and Renewable Energy Zones
- $500 million for network batteries and support of local grid solutions
- $192 million for the Transmission and Training Hubs in Townsville and Gladstone..
