Renewable energy zone (REZ) roadmap
We’ve outlined our plan to connect around 22 GW of renewable energy to the grid in the REZ Roadmap.
The REZ Roadmap (PDF, 3.5MB) is the framework we'll follow to:
- coordinate the development of clean energy infrastructure
- reduce the overall impact of development
- lessen costs
- deliver better outcomes for communities and industry.
REZ regions
We worked with Powerlink to identify 12 potential REZs, which are grouped by region. View a map (PDF, 1.8MB).
The potential REZs are in:
Our targets
Renewable energy zones help us reach the targets set out in the Energy (Renewable Transformation and Jobs) Act 2024.
By law, we must generate:
- 50% renewable energy by 2030
- 70% renewable energy by 2032
- 80% renewable energy by 2035.
We'll update the roadmap every 2 years, based on the community feedback we receive about a potential REZ.
Jobs in renewable energy
When we establish REZs, we're also creating job opportunities.
We'll need Queenslanders to develop, build and maintain the infrastructure that generates renewable energy.
We've developed the roadmap in line with the Queensland Energy and Jobs Plan.
