Scam alert
We are aware of phone calls and websites by third parties about the Battery Booster program that are fraudulent or misleading.
Always make sure you read about Queensland energy rebates on a legitimate Queensland Government website that includes qld.gov.au in its web address. We do not make unsolicited phone calls about energy rebate programs.
The Battery Booster program provided rebates to make it more affordable for Queenslanders to buy and install a home battery system.
Safety has been a priority of the program—rebates were only available to eligible Queensland householders who selected an Approved Battery System and used an Approved Installer. All installations funded under the program are being inspected to ensure they meet the required safety and compliance standards and regulations.
For more information on the program and to access additional resources, visit Battery Booster rebate for householders.
Approved Battery System list
Under the program, an Approved Battery Systems list was published on our website and updated as required.
The list needed to meet technical eligibility criteria to ensure:
- the safety of each battery and inverter system
- quality for consumers
- the stability of the energy grid.
For additional information on solar battery products and what to look for in a system, see the:
- Battery Buyers Guide to help you understand home battery storage and plan the right system for your home
- Clean Energy Council (CEC) approved batteries list includes products that have been independently tested to confirm they meet CEC’s battery assurance program standards
- Solar Victoria’s battery product list includes battery systems of size 6kWh or greater, that meet additional technical criteria (not currently assessed by the CEC)
Approved Installers
Approved Installers were required to meet minimum training and licensing requirements. Businesses had to apply to become an Approved Installer for the program and were listed on our website which was updated during the rebate application and assessment process.
Some Approved Installers were removed from the Approved Installer list and placed on the Removed Installers list. In some cases, this was done for administrative reasons including:
- the business moved out of Queensland and no longer wished to participate in the program
- unsafe installations were identified
- the installer electrical contractor licence expired.
The Approved Installer and Removed Installer lists have now been removed from our website as they were only relevant while the program was active.
Installing a home solar battery system
If you are considering installing a solar battery system in your home, we recommend you get multiple separate quotes from accredited retailers and / or installers and do sufficient online research to assess the quality of system installers.
More information on choosing a home solar battery product, retailer or installer is available via:
- the Battery Buyers Guide
- Solar Accreditation Australia which operates the Clean Energy Regulator’s accreditation scheme and provides searchable lists of approved battery system installers and designers
- The New Energy Tech Consumer Code (NETCC) where approved sellers are required to meet consumer protection standards for solar, battery storage, EV chargers and more.
